Project 2025: War on Democracy

Project 2025 is the Republican Party’s extreme plan to remake the federal government under a Trump Presidency (though he says he has nothing to do with it) . This has gotten a lot of attention within the past year, mainly for what is hoped to be accomplished if this plan is enacted. Some of these include the eradication of affirmative action, the department of education and eliminating life saving care such as abortions. This will in turn affect the already declining quality of education, our ability to get jobs, and our right to receive medical help in situations like an ectopic pregnancy. Now that Donald Trump is in office, this is a very real possibility. What does this all mean for Black Women (and women in general)? This is a breakdown of a few things the republican party is planning to do with project 2025.

Healthcare

One main objectives of this plan is to reduce federal governments spending on healthcare by potentially getting rid of research facilities that provide medication and disease treatment and agencies that run Medicare and Medicaid. This affects our ability to obtain medical devices, contraceptives, and life saving procedures for pregnant women. This even extend to limited access to contraceptives, life saving abortion care. This even extends to access personal products like hair and makeup product.

Why is This important?

Lower income Black people, especially black women, will have a harder time getting treatment for their ailments.

Education

One of the most important and dangerous proposals of this document is the shut down of the department of education, which was created in 1867. The claimed point of this is to allow families to chose a school from a variety of schools that otherwise may not have been available to them.

Why is this Important?

This would also eliminate the Education Departments Office of Civil Rights that enforces civil rights laws and investigation on schools engaging in discriminatory practices. This will also provide more funding to private schools thus making it harder for a majority of the population to get an education. In additon, early education programs will also receive less funding, affecting young kids.

Threats to Religious Freedom

Faith is the cornerstone of many American families, shaping our values and enables us to connect with other communities with shared religious beliefs. Project 2025 threatens our right to religious freedom by allowing the government to define religious values.

Why is This Important?

This essentially allows law makers to shape policies around religion, affective things like education, marriage, and chid welfare.

Threats to Overtime pay

Project 2025 will allow employers to stop paying overtime, which would take away overtime protections for approximately 4 million workers. 92% of people oppose this.

Why is This Important?

If this is implemented, those who work overtime to support their families will not get compensated for the extra hours they are working.
